I have heard of growers using this material under their pumpkins, but I have been unable to find it. How has it worked for those of you who use it and where can I find some of it? Thanks again!

Get ahold of Shelly Cramer. I have heard very good things from some big hitters who use it. I will be using it in '04.

We got ours from Shellie. They work great. This year the only pumpkins we didn't lose to fruit rots were the ones sitting on this fabric.

Here is the link.

Excellent "stuff". The Magic of Thinking Big....You need a four by four foot square for under each fruit. I was taught by Tony to lay down an inch or so of builder's sand in the area where the pumpkin will touch down as it approaches softball size or on to basketball size. As the fruit grows, very early, at basketball slip the fabric under the pumpkin.

As the pumpkin grows pull the fabric up around the pumpkin and "stuff" damp builders sand in the "><". This enables the sand to support some downward thrust and helps eliminate cupping or concave bottoms on the fruit. It also keeps filth out of contact with the pumpkin. This takes a lot of sand....so get ready and have it on the edge of the patch for daily use.

....The rodent barrier is now in place maybe half a foot or more up the side of the pumpkin. The lower packed levels can breathe and dry out should they get wet. Airborn fungi can not blow into the lower level packed areas of the fruit.
This fabric is good for many years use. Clean by hosing down with water and hanging in the sunlight for natural drying and further UV effect on the surfaces. Store hanging up or tacked flat on a shed wall.
