I'm currently thinking I'll just plant my own seed next year, but I haven't fully decided yet. I like seeing the developments from year to year of a seed stock which is my main reason, and also if you get a big one, you have tons of seeds. Anyway I'm thinking of planting:
1 x 490estJammer 2002 (1058 Papez x open) 2 x 700UOW Jammer 2003 (490est Jammer x Open) most likely pollinator a 625 est jammer 1 x 570UOW Jammer 2003 (625 est Jammer x Sib)
The 625 est Jammer 2002 is a 1092 Burke x self/1020 Papez.
I might substitute a 700UOW jammer for a squash of some sort.
So any of you guys growing your own unproven or proven stuff next year?
Mike

We are planning to grow at least 16 plants next year and probably 5 or 6 of them will be our own seeds. Unless you get a name in this sport very few pepole will be willing to prove your seed no matter how good your genetics are. You might have the next 845, 846, 582, ect.. Go for it. Jim Ford

I figure that if I haven't the intestinal fortitude to grow my own seed....how can I expect anyone else to do so? I have "wasted" some great "name brand" seeds in my pathogenic soil, but so have many other growers....some "big name" growers. I figure that even if they(my own) will do well in my own patch, that doesn't mean they will do well in every growers patch. How many of you have known of some 723's, 845's or 846's that have "gone nowhere"?

I agree with Stan, if not me then who? I’ll grow my Muller 796 (1097.5 Beachy 2002 x Self) and my Muller 603.5 (845.0 Nesbitt 2001 x Self).
I also have room for two more plants and I’ll being thinking about what other seeds I’ll grow all winter long.

Stan...don't discount your seed, the 1000# is a good cross. The 1020 is a great seed and it produced a grand for you that went heavy OTC. AND, the 1000# pollinator threw a 1000+ that went heavy OTC. Look at it on paper, I'd certainly grow it, if it was mine.

As of now, the plan is to grow my 527 (716 Miller x 865 Mettler). Also my 466 (1016 Daletas x 801 Stelts). My 762 from '02 (887 Orr x 962 Willemse) was grown by my nephew last year, and even though it was somewhat neglected and hit hard with powdery mildew, it weighed right on the chart at 536 lbs. I plan on giving that one a try.

How couldn't I grow the seed I believe is the best for warm country growers, which is the 1036 Perez 03 (600.5 Gregory x 950.4 Boyton). If I only considered that both of the parents have grown a 1000+ in the same patch as the daughter will grow (same soil, same spanish summer) and in a very hot year... But I also know that the pollination day was a fine day for pollination indeed, fresh, nice and... the National USA Holyday!!!

I have a few of my own seeds in at the test patch: 2 x 950.4, 620, 374 and 301. My 386 didn't germinate and I gave my 238 to my Dad(don't think it got planted out). Its funny...... you look at a plant from your own seed differently, maybe it should get that extra bit of care? So far my 374 is the best of my seeds, keeping pace with everything and looking strong. 374 cross is 845 Bobier x 762 Neuville. The pumpkin only had 58 seeds. Weighed 6% heavy too, only fruit from last year to go heavy.

Difficult decisions in picking seeds for next year, big question for me is if I will plant anything besides my own seeds, well, maybe an 846 Calai, other than that...

My 715 and 691 will both be grown in my patch next year. My 576* will be there too to cross back with the 895.5* Hester. I will also try to get one of my two 613 seeds that may be sound to germinate and keep my fingers crossed. I've twice gotten my personal bests from my own seeds, so I have no qualms about using them.

Great point Tiller, most of my P.B Pumpkins have been from our own seeds. I only have two positions opening up for "Strange Seeds" next season.

i will be growing my own "sweet 16" seed again next year (815 Checkon X Gerry 300(1140 X 845 Bobier'00)) it was pollinated on 8-2-03, a month late, and whacked-out 510.5 for me with little care---no vines buried. so i figure at even 10 pounds a day X 30 days--i coulda had 800+ no problem!
