Hi There: Hope everyones pumpkins are doing well.I have a Q does the sun HELP change the color of the pumpkin at some point?. The reason i ask is my biggin has been under raps (a hoop house for 4 weeks or so and when i uncovered it ,it's still yellowish on the front end where the sun don't shine. The rear is pinkish orange very light. The pumpkin is well into the 700+ range. Will the rest of the pumpkin change color sooner or lator or am i going to have a striped pumpkin?.Thanks for any input.Happy growing.John

the sun will definatly help i tturn orange. my biggest fruit last year was covered with a tarp.....the blossom end was exposed to sun, the front end was not. the blossom part ended up being a pinkish color, the stem ended up being almost white

So then those of us who culled some of ours early do to the heat, should we set them outside to turn orange, or will they stay the color they where at the time they were cut?

Sounds like a nice one John! If you can, bring some photos to the picnic on Saturday. I would love to check it out.

John, I am not sure sun will dramaticly change the color, but I'm certian that the suns U.V rays will effect the aging process for the worst.
