To all who posted on the earlier thread, Thank You. As for Mr. Hester, nope, just Brett or The Pumpkinguru. I am not any better grower than anyone else, I just have been doing this crazy thing for a while and have a little experience under my belt. As for generosity, is there a better way to repay those who got me started than by passing the generosity forward as well. We have a wonderful hobby/sport where people of all countries, race, age, gender, and social class can compete on a level playing field. In the 10 years now that I have been doing this, Giant Pumpkin growing has gone from a select few growers (perhaps 30 at most)with the potential of growing the world record to perhaps a 1000 people with the know how and drive to do it. Pass what you know on, and never turn a person down who wants a seed because, speaking from experience, it is not disappointing to have those you teach bring in a bigger pumpkin than you. Take Care all and Happy Holidays The Pumpkinguru

Hey Brett.....That was great! Would you send me twenty pounds of your secret Mt.St. Helen's ashes? Let's see now. I could swap an equal amount of South Eastern Pennsylvania Clay taken from under the finest organically managed soils in Lancaster County. :)

Hey Brett, in the generous spirit of the sport would you mind sending me that 865 Mettler i traded you my 990 Hebb for. If that's too much i'd at least like my 990 back. Thank you, and happy holidays. tom

Brett, it is an honor to be one of those that you taught that brought a bigger pumpkin & squash to a competition. That good deed will not go without repayment. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, very soon :o) Thanks Brett. Jim

Brett: Does the 582 have any special needs or issues like flat vine or splitting. I will be fortunate enough to grow one in 2004 in Southern California. Does it need a large space or can I trim it to work in about 500 sq. ft.? Merry Christmas
