To my surprise and horror I found no vine connecting my largest pumpkin to the main vine in the hill! As of right now and probably the last couple of weeks the vine connecting my pumpkin has rotted away from the stump of the main vine and all growth is occuring with the support of the roots formed by the leafs. This is a severed vine totally on its own. This pumpkins has gained 30" OTT last week and about 9" OTT in the last two days. Burying your vines is important. It's what is saving this pumpkin. My season is probably over except my pumpkin just doesn't know it!!!!!!! Has anyone else ever had this happen? I am truly amazed, once again, by AG's.

not surprised all my vines have turned to mush just above the root some had borers at that spot some just rotted. i have switched to foliar spray only. the vines still look healthy whats with that? as a matter of fact the vines are now growing as fast as they were a month ago with minimum bud production is it the heat?

hey guys, just figured i'd tell you that a very good friend of mine, simultaniously severed the vine from the stump, and pollinated a pumpkin, on the same day.......within minutes........he grew a 500+ pounder that way, and i'm NOT kidding.....keep up the hard work

Any fruit grown on a "clone" is an example of not needing a stump to grow a pumpkin.......G
