anyone know whether or not cantalouping around blossom and stem ends signals some level of pumpkin maturity and any leveling off off growth ? can i expect any more significant growth and weight gains or is it over ? pumpkin tapes around 300lbs, and major areas haven't cantalouped yet.

HI Duff:
mine has more cantoloping then yours by the sounds of it.it has it on the front end blossem end on the sides it started (around the stem and blossem) two weeks ago and im still gaining around 20lb a day.And i expect 200lb plus more before it done.Cantoloping is a netting around the out side skin of the pumpkin that makes the pumpkin look like the out side of a cantolope.Its a sign of a maturing pumpkin,mines 46 days old today and it should grow atleast 35 to 40 days more (i hope) before it done.The last 10 or 15 days i dont care if it's only gaining 5lb a day as long as it gains>Best of luck hope this helped. mini patch,,,what are you feeding it??? :(,,I'm only getting between 5-9 lbs a day,,I want 20lbs a day!! :(

thanks for the promising input mini patch. i'm only measuring once a week, and my "cantalouping" pumpkin still managed a 25" circumference gain. guess i just gotta sit back and ride it for as long as i can !

Yukon, If you want to see extreme 'cantalouping' look at the diary by 'Case'. He has a 400 lbs. pumpkin picture on his 8-19-2001 post.

There is also a good example of extreme cantalouping on my 353. It is in my photo gallery pictures.
When I showed the people at work the picture they told me it didn't look like a pumpkin but a giant cantaloupe.......Paul
