Does anyone have thoughts on using Lotion or vasoline to keep the skin soft and help prevent a rupture? It may block air but does it really need it? What about once they are harvested, should I wax it?

If I'm taking a pumpkin to the weigh-off, I wipe it down with Pledge. This acts as an anti-dessicant, and reduces moisture and weight loss. I've also heard of growers using Wilt-Pruf(sp?). Also , some growers will leave the vines long on the pumpkins, and stick each end into a jug of water. This all helps to minimize weight loss.
