My first female Atlantic Giant bloomed today. I had no male Atlantic Giant flowers to pollinate with so I used male flowers from several average jack-o-lantern pumpkin plants. Will this affect the size of the fruit on my Giant? I have no interest in keeping the seeds from this one.

I'm not an expert but I don't think it will have any affect on this years pumpkin, just next years which you said wasn't a problem. Good luck Amy

brian, pollination has no effect on the pumpkin you are growing, only the seeds. however, i doubt that your pollination will work. atlantic giants are classified as curcubita maxima, and will only pollinate with pumpkins, or squash of the same, i believe its genus, don't quote me on that, it may be species. anyway, average jackolanterns tend to be curcubita pepo i believe. basically it won't work. i know the lumina pumpkins (those white ones) are curcubita maxima, that would work, so are turk's turbans. i dont' mean to be a fly in the ointment, sorry about that. dont' worry, youll get some males off that ag!!

Thanks for the input. I'm not too worried, more flowers will be along in the future. I'll let you know if it works.
