Hi all, Well, Long Shot lived up to her name. 7 males have bloomed so far and about 200 perfect females that have aborted. The males are hideous looking specimens compared to the flowers that Ken sent. None of those took although the females got a little bigger than "normal" Ha Ha!! About the size of a grapefruit. Normal abort, The size of a lemmon. LOL. I've learned a lot from this site and from all you great folks. I appreciate it! I'll keep checking in on ya'll to see and read about your progress, and dream about my big one next year. Thanks again, Pappy

When my season is over I just tend to my bonsai trees until the season starts again........just a suggestion.

P, Have you thought about combining your hobbies and growing a bonsai Atlantic Giant?

I already am trying to grow one....a big max, but I think I stunted the plant too much.....the plant is standing upright like a tree and looks like a bonsai too....about a foot tall and there are lots of male flowers blooming but no female ones.

I think I have the same bonsai big max strain. My big max's are doing the same thing -- growing straight up. I think I will put a wire cage around it and tell the neighbors it is orange tomatoes.

A week ago I took a trip to Queens,NY to visit my relatives. By the building, parallel to the driveway there was a strip of land used as a vegetable garden. Climbing the fence there was a vine(looked like a small pumpkin vine)with a 5 foot long green thing growing from it.....I don't know if it was a huge zuchinni or a huge gourd.....does anybody know what could have been growing?

More than likely it was a cucuzzi....a long baseball bat sized light green squash used in soups and caseroles, mainly by Italians here....................G
