Here's another stupid question........my #3 pumpkin on the 896 Wells went belly-up at volley ball size. It got mushy and wrinkled for no reason that i could find. Here's the question: Are the seeds that are in that pumpkin any good for use next year? It has a lot of seeds inside,...i cut it open after i cut it from the vine to check it out. The inside looks alright to me, but....what do i know?! thanks.......Cuzbiker

When you dry those seeds and look inside you'll find there's nothing there. I've played with this a bit and found you need at least 50 days for viable seeds...now Im positive someone out there's going to contradict this but thats what I found. This is a normal date pollination (june and July).....I would guess a late pollinated pumpkin might have mature seeds in less days as the coming fall environment may induce the fruit to "hurry up"......Glenn a

Alrighty Glenn........thanks. This is definitly NOT a mature pumpkin. It was pollinated on the 6th of June, and never did grow all that fast. It started making nice gains tho just before it aborted. I did prune a couple secondaries real close to it......maybe i Made it abort by doing that?! Anyway, i'll blow those seeds off, but it WAS worth asking about........now i know.

Do a little experiment for us. Dry those suckers out and try germinating one. Report the data to us!

You may want to try a few more than one. My trials were 50 at a time, two times.........G
