I'm a third year grower and need help. I've got female flowers ready soon to pollinate but need an anatomy lesson. The female blossoms have a leaf and a vine growing at the junction where the blossom is. It seems to affect the angle of the stem ,what should I do? The vine that is growing at the junction of the flower I want to pollinate tomorrow morning is about a foot long. the leaf is pretty large and above and to the side of the blossom. If I cut either off will it affect the pumpkin as far as disease getting in and water loss. If I should cut it off how close for both to the stem. By the way these blossoms are on main vines. I almost forgot, What about the tendrils ? It almost seems to be in the way also. Thank you Amy

Amy, Have the exact situation here. I have a digital picture here to send to show you what i did to. you need to cut off the leaf and re-postion the vine carefully. that may have to be done over several days. the leaf won't hurt he fruit right now but eventually the pumpkin shoulders will rub on the leaf axil and scar the skin. Also... you should hack off the secondary vine to allow more room for the fruit. god Luck and if you can't get gitial pictures i could try to upload the picture to this web site. Good Luck and le us know how ya made out. Shellie Cramer

Hi all you pumpkin folks, what fun! I am a first year grower and am having a lot of fun, don't really know what I am doing but I am giving it a go..Right now I am concerend about water amounts, can I overwater? I have 3 vines about 10 feetl long and 3 nice looking pumpkins, the largest is 25" around, these 3 pumpkins were the first to show, do I go with these or wait on later fruit. Hope my questions are not too stupid. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in Southern Ca. so the weather is mild.
Thanks in advance, Vonnie
