my book on giant pumpkins by don langevin hasn't come in yet,so i figured i could ask you pros instead. what's the scoop on pruning? do you prune the leaves? i thought you are suppossed to have 150 or more leaves per plant?thanks.

Most people prune all tertiary vines immediately, and let secondaries grow 12 ft or more before pruning. I have heard of some people pruning secondaries at 6 ft, I guess it depends on personal preference and growing area. I only prune leaves that are interfering with a pumpkin. You want the leaves...leaves are good. --Bruiser

I prune every other secondary vine to make more room. You will find that with more room the leaves get bigger. Now is bigger better than more? Very hard to say. The increased room also allows for better plant maintenance (spraying, weeding, burying of vines, etc.).
