Ok, someone just told me in another discussion (bruiser I think) that for every sqft there is a leaf, ok, as an example I said that Grammpa was 5'x21' wich is 110 sqft and that meant that I only have 110 leaves on the plant, and that there should be 150 minimum, now this makes sence,(don't laugh at my spelling) But why 150? I know I read this somewhere and just blew it off cause I aint goin out and countin it's leaves, this seems like an easyer way to estimate the leaves on the plant.
Ok, so He got my curiosity up and I went out and remeasured Grammpa this morning (by the way my neighbor thinks I'm nut's, LOL) and since Grammpa uprooted his main vine last week and took off on another run he now measures 5'x25' (some where in there)
125 sqft aka. 125 leaves,But still why 150? the plant looks great but the fruit just aint growin. I guess that'll teach me to buy Gurney's generic, Dill's atlantic giant seeds.
So realy should I just go ahead and let him run to 26' or 27' before I try to stop and bury the main vine??
If this will help you Know I'm gonuh do it.
Only 5 more weeks till the Idaho state Fair yuh know.

Harold,
In general I think bigger is better. 200 sq feet is less favorable then 400 and 400 less so then 800. Some big pumpkins have been grown on plants that are only 500 sq feet or so but I think most of the big ones come from plants that are around 1000. I've hear of growers letting their plants get to 2000 sq feet in size. If 125 feet is what you have to work with, so be it. If you've got room to let it grow to 27 or 30 let it happen.
Brian
p.s. the Idaho State fFair is usually won by someone with a 100 lb pumpkin, so go for it. Its only 32 days away as the entries have to be in on the 30th.
