Hi Although my number 1 interest is growing giant pumpkins I am looking at growing a crop of pie pumpkins commercially. Over here in Australia all our eating pumpkins are blue skinned, nothing orange. I have obtained a few seeds of a variety called mystic. Has anyone heard of these? Also what does a small pie pumkin sell for and is pumpkin pie really that special. Back to the giants, it will be at least a month before we start planting over here and I cant wait. i love checking out the growers diarys and I hope all of you crack the 1000lb mark. Good luck Down Under

Down Under, I have never grown pumpkins for pies before, nor have I cooked my own pumpkin for pie, I've always used store bought pumpkin. Pumpkin pie is awesome, and I do make the best pumpkin pie. My husband never liked pumpkin pie before we were married, now he loves it but will only eat mine. I usually make around 4 at the end of October (one is for the Boss on his birthday, I have to bring in a couple of others or no one will be talking to me at work and if I make any for work I have to make some for home or my hubby won't let me take it to work). Then I make several around Thanksgiving and again at Christmas for dinner and presents.
