Buzz,
Even though only a small percentage of cuke beetles carry bacterial wilt (2-5%), it only takes one of these beetles to totally destroy your plant through wilt. I spray insecticide every 7-10 days throughout the growing season, more often when the cuke beetles are in high numbers. Liquid Sevin works fine. Hope it isn't too late for you! Cuke beetles are enemy #1 in this area for giant pumpkin growers!

I know them well. Here in South Eastern Pa. they are my greatest nemesis. I use Diazonon and actually post the dead ones on a board infront of the patch like a fighter pilot to discourage any others (just in case they have a higher intelligence). Seriously, Diazonon works well for me ever 7 days after watering...watch the flowers, they love to hang out in there !!!!!!!! Gary
