I know that it is early, but how do I tell if a pumpkin should be removed from a vine during harvesting season? How do I remove it from the vine? Thanks, David

Bub,
Measure your pumpkin for growth every 3 or 4 days. If it stops growing for a week or more, I'd say it was done. Simply cut the pumpkin off the vine, although if it's going to a weigh-off, check rules, some sites allow you to leave 1" of vine on both sides of the stem. (Every ounce counts!)

I've got an early ripened big max. You could also do the fingernail test, if you can easily pierce the rind with your fingernail it's not done, but this can scar a fruit that's not ripe. Kilr, some times I wonder how someone can know so much about pumpkins. You're always on the ball.
