A while back there was a posting by Wes in California, suggesting positioning pumpkins late in the day. I didn't agree with Wes, and said my experience showed moving them in the heat of the day worked best. After talking to Wes, it seems that since our climates, early morning and evening hour temps, and humidity levels, differ, we may both be correct.(for our area!) There isn't always one definitive answer for a question, so now I suggest to do what works for you!

I always moved them in the heat of the day, and it has worked well for me so far. --Bruiser

Kilr, Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the state of california out to my house to move there telephone pole and over the weekend my pumpkin lost its battle against the telephone guy wire I wrote about last week. I thought I might have moved it enought where the wire wouldn't affect it but on Sunday I went out to water and I discovered the blossom end had burst at the seems. The pumpkin has a split in it about a foot long and about 1 inch wide at the center. So I decided to remove it from the vine and hopefully one of the other pumpkins will pick up the pace. I have two more growing on the same plant and hopefully they will do a little better. They're both in much better positions but unlike the first one they are on secondary vines. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I didn't have a scale around but I measured the pumpkin with the split and it measured 86" in circumference and 70" over the top in both side to side and front to back directions. I was kind of wondering how thick the pumpkin should have been by now. It seems like where it cracked the fruit is only about an inch to an inch and a half thick. But I'm sure it must have been thicker than that else where because my friend and I could barely pick the thing up so I'm sure it was at least 150lbs.
