JIM KILBERT UPDATE ON 6-23-2001: {PENNSYLVANIA}
The Penna. state police closed off the highway in
front of my house, and Penndot had 12 crews out there
with chain saws. My clone has gotten out of hand, and
the vines kept sprawling across and blocking the
roadway! I just hope all this "unauthorized" pruning,
doesn't spur this "thing" on to taking over the town!
I've been photographing my "clone" since it first
arrived, and plan to put entries into a diary at
Bigpumpkins, but I've been too busy, plus have only a
35 mm camera. I'll let you know if and when I get it
set up. My clone has been doing quite well, primary
and secondaries starting to take off. The leaves and
main vines seem "small", compared to some of my other
plants. I also noticed that it is the first plant to
wilt in the hot sun, and is most affected. I don't
think the root system has caught up to "handle" all of
those leaves! Don't know if anyone else has seen this,
but it may be something to take note of. I pollinated
my first pumpkin yesterday (6/22) on the Scherber.
Good position on the main, it was a nice cool day, so
I "sense" that it took! All my other plants seem to be
a couple of weeks behind the clone. Hope all is
growin' well for ya.
