if phytophthora is caused by too much rain as it says on pg.99 of dons book then could it be caused by too much watering ihad a plant die too what looked like phyto. during periods of no rain how much water is too much

i dont know too much about phyto, but you should keep your soil as evenly moist as possible. alot of people dont overhead water. that may limit some fungal diseases. an inch or slightly more per week is usually adequate. 623 gallons of water is one inch of water for 1000 sq. feet. divide that by 7 days........89 gallons per day. now all you have to do is figure out how fast the water is coming out of your hose, and your all set. of course if it rains you dont need to water as much. if your patch is smaller,lets say 500 sq.ft, use a figure of 311 gal. instead. good luck,
