I know most growers grow fruit on the main if they can, but have any of the biggies out there been grown on a secondary?

There have been quite a few large fruit on 2ndaries. but like you said the main is prefered.

Look at Kirk Mombert on the AGGC site he had multiple 800 pounders on the same plant.

Main point is if going for broke and a biggie get down to one on the plant and do the best you can. Terminate any that appear later or anyplace on the vine.
