I had a pumpkin split this morning that I pollinated on 7-2. It was growing on a main vine on my Stellpflug 811. It was growing at a scary rate. The whole bottom of the pumpkins split. Any ideas as to why it split?

Hey Hoosier.......you been cutting, and burying vines, and watering, and fertilizing at the same time? I heard that splits can happen easily when you do both in the same day. I'm not professing to know it all, since i'm a 1st year grower......but if i cut, and bury vines, or pollinate, i wont water, and fertilize that same day. (just a thought) Cuzbiker

I did water and fertilize yesterday. I've got another on the main and a secondary vine on the same plant that have scary growth also (to fast). I weighed the split pumpkin in weighed 4.55 pounds and was pollinated on 7-2.
