I am a first time pumpkin grower and everthing is going fairly well right now with my pumpkins. My vines are going all over the place. My question is what do I do with my vines? I have read that I need to bury my vines, if so, how much or how deep do I cover them? Also, what is the purpose of this? Like I said, I am a first time grower that wants to learn.
Thanks, David

David Bury the vines. This should be done as they begin to touch the ground. Its a lot easier to do a little at a time rather then trying to play catch up if you miss a few days. At every node roots will form. They increase nutrient and water uptake. They also serve to anchor the vines in the ground which will help prevent from twisting and falling over in the wind. I put an inch of soil on mine. This keeps the area around the node moist and allows the root to grow, otherwise it dries out and dies in the air.
