Just enough, but not too much!
Seriously though, a lot has to do with your type of soil and how well the drainage is. Plants should have at least 1" of water weekly(this takes quite a while with a sprinkler), buy a cheap rain guage to keep track. It is better to water less and more frequently that a lot all at once. You also don't want to go long periods in between. As long as your vines aren't laying in water, you should be fine. Use common sense.

Bill,
Overfeeding your plants can cause them to be more susceptible to disease. I feed mine once a week. Slow and sure wins the race. Too much fertilizer can also cause splits and pumpkins literally exploding. A lot of growers also use the seaweed and fish emulsion, as do I. It's not a real potent fertilizer, but is believed to really work at helping to strengthen your plants immunities. Neptune's sells this, but I have found a less expensive "off brand". The more you get "into" growing a giant pumpkin, the more options and expenses you will be willing to try, too improve the odds!

I started using SeaPlus, it's fish & seaweed combined into 1 product. under $20 gallon of concentrate. 3-2-2. Yes, it does smell.

Also trying Maxicrop powder; 1-0-4

P.S. off subject but if anyone can spare($) some W-T or Scimitar CS please e-mail me.
