Is it possible or has anybody ever grown an AG that is sterile? Long shot now covers about 600 square feet and I have yet to see a male bloom. There are many many buds but not one has opened yet. I've already had to pass up 3 females for lack of pollen and will have a couple more by weeks end........Pappy

A couple years ago I had a Big Max that had only males, no females.

Pappy,

What type of fertilizer are you using? For the next few weeks you should be cutting back on nitrogen.Too much nitrogen produces dark green leaves, spindly growth, and poor pollination. Males usually appear first, so I suspect the females are not far behind.Hang in there!

I had the opposite problem...about 20 males, and only 1 female. Then after a couple days, 4 more females sprouted, and now i'm getting a couple a day it seems!
Good luck Pappy...............cuzbiker

I used some Miracid 30-10-10 before i had females popping up, and now since pollination i've been using 15-30-15.
I'd like to find something locally with a higher potash ratio with fruit set, but haven't been able to find any yet.

This time of the year I switch to miracle gro's bloom buster, fertilizer, which is about a 12 - 55 - 6 NPK count. I'm a second year grower, but it does seem to help promote flowers.
