I'm having problems training the vines on one of my plants. By the time they hit the ground they are to thick to work with ( I think). I'm trying to curve the vine by the females but am having a lot of problems. The last 2 entries in my diary will show my problem........Any ideas would be much appreciated............Paul

You will get the maximum flexibility to your vines late in the day on a warm afternoon. Do not water the plant prior to the movement of its vines.

Huff,
Simply go back and gently uncover some of the main that you have buried. (You MAY have to sever a leaf node tap root or 2.) This will give you a lot more flexibility, you want a larger, sweeping bend. Don't put any more stress on those vines than necessary! Some top growers never bury the main vine, just secondaries.

I agree w/ Kilr.
You might have to start your curve a little earlier.
Wait until the heat of the day if you can.

Maybe I'm doing the wrong thing, but I have been starting to train them in the curves while the vines are still airborn, I just don't push the stakes all the way down to the ground. I don't think you have to wait till the vine touches the ground, as long as you're careful with the tender new growth at the tips.

Paul, I'm having a similar problem with my 1230 Daletas. The vine is very thick. I may use a bungee cord to aply constant pressure, and slowly curve the vine. That may work for you.
