Is it true that squash and pumpkins will cross pollinate? If so, should I cull the two females that have bloomed and try for the next ones on the vine. The first two are about 8 ft from the stump the next ones are 3 ft beyond. Thanks for any input Pappy

Pappy...the only things that will pollinate your atantic giants are other members of the c.maxima species....these include but are not limited to: Flat White Boer,Rouge Vif Etampes',Lumina,Big Max,Big moon,King Mammoth Gold, Kentucky king,Prizewinner,Queensland Blue, and Hubbard squash. There's a bijillion c.maxima varieties...short on males? No-one growing AG"S next door? If you don't care about the seeds from your AG next year grab a prizewinner flower from the pumpkin guy on the main road....just make sure you don't give out the seed next year.........G

So I guess I should cull my two babes because they will abort anyway right? No AG growers that I know of around here. I'm sure I'll have some males by the time my next females come into heat. Thanks a lot LIpumpkin. Pappy

Jeff....your AG comes complete with male and female flowers. As long as some males are open when the female is open you should be ok....add a few bees to do the work and you should be fine. Pappy's problem was/is that ,for some strange reason, his plant doesn't produce males to pollinate his females.More often the case is the timing is off---no males when needed, but you should be fine .............G
