I found a split in the main vine, and it runs across the vine. It is about 1/2 inch long and about 1/8 inch wide, but it is not very deep at all. I am not even sure that it damaged any of the vine's flesh except the ''skin'' or ''bark''. It has already healed and the main is still growing. I have a female that is one joint farther out on the main. How devistating will this split be????
Justin
Any guess or opinion is welcome, I am just sorry that I don't have a pic to show you. I did my best at trying to describe it, but my writing skills needs a little bit of work..:)

Apply a fungiside, let dry, burry......you'll never know what it may have been w/o the split and there's not much you can do about it now....so burry and forget about it. Im sure the plant will continue to grow as it doesn't sound serious. You now have an excuse for why you didn't get a 1000lber. Best bet is to figure out why it happened and prevent that from happening again.....good luck !...G

I think what caused it was the weight of the vine itself. the vine was growong along the ground just fine, but for some reason it decided that it wanted to grow straight up. I considered putting the bamboo sticks in under it, but I was getting chewed out by my parents who wanted me to mow the yard and I forgot about it. You know if the yard wasn't 3 acres, and it didn't take an entire day to mow it then it might not be such a big deal:) I mean I have pumpkins to tend to!!! They are way more important than upholding a good social image by keeping our yard up to par. Nobody sees it any way, we live out in the middle of nowhere!!! bUt i have to listen to them....:(

I'm staying with my parents till my home is repaired from the storm damage, tell me about "my house my rules" Glenn! LOL, just kidding, they're great, glad to have them so close. They just finished helping me staple plastic to the posts I dug in for a stronger wind break. Anyway Bob, I wouldn't worry either about the split, I bet the plant doesn't even know it has it if its that shallow, some of my vines have large chunks missing and they are racing along, I think they are mad now and want to catch up!
