I went through the photo gallery and saw that every pumpkin plant had mammoth leaves. How do people get them that large? Does it have to do with the amount of water the plant gets or the age of the plant?

Hey master...i wish i had a digital camera so i could get some quick pics of my patch. I'm a first year grower, and i can tell you...i have never seen leaves as large as the ones on my 896 Wells! I have 2 big max plants, and a plant from some commercial AG seeds, and the leaves on those plants dont come close to comparing. Not knowing anymore than i do, i'd have to guess it has something to do with genetics. Even the size of the main vine is incredible. Cuzbiker

Some of the ag's have leaves that are more broad and round... others have more narrow leaves and are more ridged
I think it is all genetics also, but is one type of leaf better than another?

Maybe they get real big on superior genetic AG's to provide adequate shade for the monster pumpkins that grow on them? That's the only thing that i can think of. On regular jack-o-lantern plants, they wouldn't need to be as big because the pumpkins dont get as big? Sounds good, anyway, eh? hahahahaha Cuzbiker

My leaves are actually damaging each other. They are so broad that they are rubbing up on the next one (overlapping by 2'' in some spots!) The wind causes them to scratch each other's surface.

I've had my plants in the ground since mid-april and their leaves are just now starting to get big.
