just wanting people to chime in on the pros and cons of terminating the main vine after about 20-25 ft. no worry about females , the main is 23 ft. long & has 7 females on it.........paul

hI PAUL: I would think the main would be the last vine on the plant to deadhead.You really only want one pumpkin per vine to achive a huge pumpkin and depending on the size of your plant to get huge ones you would only want two on a plant totol.Those are my thoughts.When you get a pumpkin on the main vine thats very large maybe 300+ lbs and the rest of the plant is stumped or deadheaded and you are gaining weight rapidly it's your choice or call weather to cut the main vine.When you cut it you will gain a bit more weight then it's already gaining over night.Be carefull not to split your pumpkin.If your pumpkin is growing to fast leave the main growing.if it's not gaining enough to make you happy cut it.Lot's of decisions in this hobby LOL.
