Should I bury the stump along with the vines to promote more root growth? At this point it would only take 2 shovels full of dirt to do the trick. might also protect more from SVB's

Yes, you will get a much bigger root system by burying the stump, and as much of the vine as you can.....one caution: If there are side vines coming off of the stump that YOU DO WANT to grow, wait until they are bigger. If you bury them when they are very small, it could prevent them from growing, or cause a major delay in their development.
As a matter of fact, I buried the entire stump of one of my plants today. The stump and the first two feet of the main vine. I will continue burying the main vine as it continues to grow.
