am i familiar with this?? yup. what i did last year, extremely dangerous but worth the risk if you hate weeds as much as i do---i used 2-6'-long garden stakes, attached to each was one end of about a 20-foot piece of 6'-wide plastic sheet. i pounded a few more stakes into the ground around the plant, and unrolled the plastic around the outside of them, and pounded the other two stakes into the ground as well, basically quarantining the plant...if you try this, put down plywood to keep from compacting the soil! and be VERY careful that you have it really quarantined well from the spray of Roundup! anyway, i did this, and gently and carefully sprayed the magic stuff all around and killed them weeds. AND, i waited a while AND i made very sure that the wet stuff on the plastic still did not run off onto the plant either--just kinda peeled the plastic away, ensuring NO Roundup on the plant...i had no trouble, but it WAS risky....very......but if you hate weeds...just my idea.....

I use round up every year and never have a problem. I just close up the pumpkin green houses for the night and spray the weeds. It saves weeding the patch for weeks. You might want to hand weed around the green house and not spray around them and make sure you keep the sprayer close to the ground to avoid drifting and also don't spray on a windy day. Just common sense.

Unless weeding were neglected for a time, I'm not sure this would ever really happen. But if a large/hard to pull weed did establish itself right next to a pumpkin, you can still use Roundup. Mix a small quantity of Roundup in something like a plastic gallon milk jug whose top has been cut off. Then, while wearing rubber gloves, use a sponge to dab the offending weed.
The retail preperations of Roundup may not have these instructions on the label.
The 41% Active Ingredient version of Roundup Pro does have a section entitled "wick applications", where the rate can be as high as 33% for "wicking".
This method insures no drift at all. But watch for drips all the same!
Navigate to CDMS. Click "labels & msds". Type in Roundup. Select Roundup Pro - label (there's a few). Follow the prompts for the original Federal EPA est text version of the label.

Just a thought.
