I have 1 main vine on a plant. and 4 secondary mains. I want to keep all 5 mains (originating from the stump). Should I treat all secondaries on secondary mains the same as secondaries on main, or pinch them off as if they were tertiaries? I hope this makes sense. Thank-you.

Pappy - That is an interesting question. I'm sure that some of the more experienced guys have tried this & know what you are talking about here. I know that there are only a few examples of this growing style in Langevin's books. Maybe consult with Tom Beachy...as he has grown so many plants & fruit.
I think that you can pull off 3 mains with no problem (modified X-mas tree w/shortened secondaries), and just two would be really easy (front and back X-mas trees). I was curious about running dual mains off of one plant and asked Kirk Mombert about this topic.
If you have more than 3, the problem that you run into is that there is limited space for the secondaries - as you have in your original question. If you go with more than 3 I think you'll have to pinch the secondaries & go with the 'snake' style.

To answer your question directly - Yes, treat all the secondaries on the secondary mains the same way as you would treat the secondaries on main main.
Whew!
P.S.LOL Jeff
Hey you guys the only ones that have fruit growing already. Show us what you got goin' down there. Never mind all that rain & record breaking amounts in GA. All I know is about this time last year I had a good time reading your diaries & learning about growing. Regards, Ceis

my Clark 209 has 4 "mains" coming out at the stump. i decided to treat them all as mains `cause they are all equal in size and come out of the stump exactly opposite of each other like a compass. i was wondering the same thing as you Brian. right or wrong i`m going to let all 4 grow as mains. if nothing else, it will be a learning experience. i figure i can train secondaries to grow in the same direction as the mains. it will look like a pitch fork or one of those jewish candle holders. i guess if we can have a Christmas tree style the jews can have the candle-stick-holder-style.( they may want to shorten the name though).
