I bought some black plastic. It came in a roll 3'x50' for $4. I put up a fence around the garden to keep everything out. You could probally find this plastic at your local hardware store. I am going to use 3 of these rolls to go around the edge of my patch. It keeps the animals out and provides a little bit of a wind break. We have a bunch of wooden stakes that I used as posts, but you could use pcv pipe or something. It works and it is cheap.

I don't have a picture of my set-up on the site, but svrichb has one almost identical to mine. You can see his by viewing his complete diary. I haven't had any problems with mine and it only took me about 30 minutes to put it up.

P.S. svrichb, I hope that you don't mind me refering jeff to your diary. You haven't had any problems with animals have you?

I used that black construction plastic that is about three feet high and comes with stakes attached. Got it at Lowes for around $25 for 100 feet. Seems to be holding up we so I'm hoping to get at least one more year of use out of it.

I don't mind Justin....it just may take them awhile to load the whole thing. I haven't had any problems with animals YET but it seems like everytime I say something like that I start having those problems:)

I know that it might take them a while to view the whole thing, but there is not a very clear pic. of the fence in the last fifteen entries. So to see it they would have to load the whole thing.

Good luck

I use Irish spring soap It keeps deer away. Just walk around your patch with a cheese grater and skim off the soap around the entire perimeter.

The best thing I have found is to keep a bigger mound of fresh dirt near by. The cats usually goes for that as long as the dirt stays loosen up.

Yo Jeff,
My freind scatters clear plastic lemonade (soda to you) bottles of water around his garden..and it scares the hell out of the cats..they dont like water and give them a wide berth.

Go to a pet store and they will probably be selling spray bottles of this bitter stuff, I think it is called bitter apple and if you spray it on your plant the first sniff or lick the cat takes of the plant it won't mess with it again because it is so bitter.
