Recently, we have encountered some serious problems with US customs. They have destroyed a few of our orders, prohibiting seed into the US without proper documentation papers. So far, it has been done on a random basis but ONE is too many, everyone loses. Who's to say they destroyed the next "hot seed"? We were not warned of these new restrictions implemented by the US but they are very serious and a concern to the entire Canadian seed industry. Basically, what is required is more paperwork and time for each order. We have taken steps to obtain the necessary tests on our seed so we can continue to serve you but it will probably be a week to 10 days before we can start shipping seed to the US. Thank you for your time and co-operation. Danny Dill P.S. Imagine if the 935 Lloyd seed was destroyed; there would never have been a 723 Bobier, 845 Bobier, 712 Kuhn, etc.

Oh boy. My buddy the Postal Manager just has back surgery. I'll see him this weekend, but he's not going to be of much help on pain killers. There has to be a way. I found a similar issue last week to Australia. Just tried to send Boily a bubble. Empty! And they wanted a customs slip. I'll check my guy this weekend but perhaps someone has more info now???

perhaps we should always from now on inquire at the post office, a busy one where they REALLY know the regulations, as to what the regulations are when sending to ANY country outside of our own, whether TO Canada from the US, to the US FROM Canada, Australia, Belgium, etcetera, in order to save those hot seeds from the perils of Customs!!!

hey! whenever i've sent stuff to Boily, including Friday, so i am very concerned about all of this---all i've ever had to do is fill out a little green-and-white label that is adhesived on part of it---it hasn't been any trouble, and i expect it, so i've filled them out ahead of time for three items at once--i'm not sure if they frown upon this ahead of time stuff, but if that little ticket, with what you are sending written on it appropriately, is all that is necessary, then it isn't so bad....if that's what they need filled out...if it's anything else, y'all please let us know! thanks pumpkinpal

I would recommend marking the seeds with a pencil or something. As to let the receiver know what seeds the are in case the package is opened and inspected. I would hate to trade for a big seed and have it mixed in with the others when the packages are inspected.

I'm haveing a heck of a time getting seeds to Boily, first time they came back. So I took them to the inbread post office and they are searching there computers to see what I need to get and or do to send pkn seeds out of this country. A friend of mine owns a lumber yard that makes and sends pallets to Japan. They have to have the lumber checked with a microscope to make sure there are no bugs or eggs of any type going along for the ride. So I guess I can understand why they don't want us sending Boily some seed that will take over his hole country. Ken

Those pallets are how the Asain Longhorned Beetle made it into our country. But since the ALB is bigger than a pumpkin seed, I doubt this is the concern.
Joe, I've got some of those green sticker things now too. But this does have me wondering if there are plans to begin a formal quarantine process or a duty or excise tax collection or some other absurd act. I don't really think so, but anythings possible.
Howard, Those green customs stickers are all my local folks know of. I'll still do some more research just the same.

the local post office here made me fill out one of those stickers on each bubble i sent to canada and england.i just wrote "letters" on the line for contents, and $3.00 for value. the post office guy said they may inspect it but more often than not, they won`t. i haven`t had any problems yet. (knock on pumpkins).

BY putting a note saying cucurbita maxima in with the seeds they get into New Zealand alright although they do open every packet and fumigate them before re packing so marking the seeds is a thing you definatly have to do.

Its as Al says, our customs require botanical name of all seeds that come into Australia. They want all individual packs marked, as well as the customs sticker. Cucurbita maxima is not restricted luckily. If they come with no botanical name, customs holds them for 30 days before destroying them. All I have had to do to get the seeds is fax them a note saying that the seeds are cucurbita maxima.......or pumpkin seeds. So far none have been destroyed on me........Ben

Judging from the auction prices for the seeds, and how much my final total was for what I ordered from Dill, I would have gladly paid to either have UPS or FEDEX deliver them in a letter envelope, next day. If you're already spending $50+ for seed, what's another 8-13?
