Can anyone tell me what the actual / proper name is for the squiggily things that grow out of the vines and wrap around whatever they come in contact with? I know the plant sends them out to help hold the plant down, but I do not know what they are called. If it's in Don's book, I can's seem to find it.

Tendrils not only "hold the plant down" they also strangle compeating vegitation, support the vine as it starts to lay down, and they act as the plants eyes as it works it's way through it's enviroment.

"Tendrils" are not needed for the way most growers manage their AG plants. They just get in the way. I break or snip them off as soon as they are over 3 to 4 inches. If you leave them grow, they latch onto trndrils from adjacent runners and pul the runners togeather. Some tendrils reach out 18 inches.

P.S. I like to keep my tendrils to help hold the plant down in the wind, but I'll keep an eye on them. Thanks for the great Idea, Tom Also, my brother destroied my 968 stellpflugs that I got from bigpumpkins.com, I was hoping to cross it with an 869.5 Calai. It's to late to get a wiegh-off pumpkin on the 968, but not to late to make the next hot cross (hopfully) do you have any of them left? If so I would be very greatful if you could send me some. Thanks, Tom
