well, at first i thought i was dreaming, but after hitting myself repeatedly (pinching wasn't working)i realized that i was not dreaming. on one of my plantlings today, i found borer eggs......i kid you not. a good half dozen, and one on a green stake that i'm using to keep the plant from getting trashed in the wind. i thought they didn't come out till the end of june? and with all this cool rainy weather we've been having i thought for sure they wouldnt be here for a while. maybe it was just an early bloomer or something, but i assure you , they were svb eggs, so keep your eyes open. didn't actually see the moth, and it really didnt' have much of a place to hide considering that the plant it laid the eggs on only has 4 true leaves. but there was definatly a visitor in my patch today. i still can't believe it.

WOW! Thanks for the warning. After seeing the RVSK diary yesterday and the mildew they had, I inspected my leaves real close yesterday. So far no mildew or signs of insects.

Scotty!
Systemic insecticides, such as Warrior T seem to be quite effective for both SVB's and cuke beetles. I've heard of SVB moths that died after just landing on the leaves! I'm using Scimitar this year, after my pumpkins stopped growing the first few days of September.

Hi Farmer Scott -- Thanks for the warning! We had some borers last year, but never did see any adults or evidence of borer eggs. It would be great if you could post a photo of what the borer eggs looked like so we could watch for signs. We know what SQUASH BUG eggs look like, but not borer eggs. A photo of BORER eggs would be a great help.
Thanks again,
RVSK

I have used isotox the last 2 years & have had no bug problems at all. I tank mix it with Daconil & spread it once a week..........Paul

what should I dust my plants with for mildew? I had some last year on a small sugar, but it grew so quickly that it survived.

Paul, thanks for the info. I didn't realize you could mix the two. I'll give it a try, when and if the weather ever warms up enough to get things growing good.

Hi Farmer Tom - Glad to hear your plants are looking good! We used Daconil and sprayed it on the entire plant when we noticed some mildew on ours. It seemed to take care of the problem. The label says to apply it weekly as it can be used as a disease preventative. RVSK

Thanks for the info, I'll do that right away. I inspected my plants yesterday, I now have 6 female flowers! I haven't been able to take a good look at them today, the ground is soaked. I got over 2 inches of rain last night. Tom
