Please look at my diary entry for 6/4/01. The one that says "Attention Experienced Growers". It's a picture of a root "gob" on a seedling. I used some Schultz's rooting stimulator when I soaked and planted the seeds in their peat pots. Could this have caused the problem, or is it a genetic mutation?

Wow... It looks like an onion. I have never had a seed to do that and I use Schultz's Starting mix. My guess is that it is a genetic mutation. But I am not an eperienced grower, only a 16 year old highschool student, and a first time grower

I'm a 4th year grower, I don't call my self an expert because I learn new things about these things everyday but have never seen this before. This is totally a guess but I am thinking its something to do with the rooting stimulator. I only say this because it looks like the root system went wild. I'm not very familiar with rooting stimulators but I thought they were more for cuttings of plants to get them to root. I can't explain why this didn't happen to all of you seedlings though. So anyway my guess and its only a guess is maybe too much of a good thing.
good luck and I hope you find the answer

That is the coolest thing i have seen....that is weird....it must have been the root stimulator...just a guess, not sure what else would make it do that. Are you still growing the seedling? I bet it should grow fine. I know from experience if the root tip is broken off some how, it will shoot out roots from the side, around in a circle....as in the case with one of my 616 corkum seeds this year, but it never sent out a clump of roots like that. That is the only thing that i can think of is maybe the root tip was broken off some how and that is what spawed from it.....it is just another guess.

Dsclatt- Are you going to grow it at all? I would be curious to see how it does, even if only for a month or so in the corner of the garden. Also, to see what the roots heading foreward.

It is still "growing" in the peat pot. I replanted it after I took the picture. It's in the pot but hasn't gotten any bigger in the past three days. But, it's isn't dying either, just sitting there.
