This is my first year trying to grow the nuclear pumpkin. I have planted 7 in all, 2 derosiers 600 and the rest are dill atlantic giants in the 700 lb. class. Within four days after planting, all were approximately 3 inches tall. Now my question, my little girls both have rabbits, would it be ok to throw the droppings into the soil around the mounds? Are rabbit droppings good fertilizer? thanks guys.

Very good do it...but not too much it it is right out of the cage/pen. Fresh manure should be composted before being applied.

Rabbit droppings are an excellent soil conditioner, and contain roughly 2%N-1%P-1%K. They are a cold manure and can be added directly to the soil around your plants with out worrying about burning your plants.(as long as the droppings are dry). I have used them in my gardens and compost piles for years.

What is a "cold Manure"?
Thanks in advance.

a cold manure is animal waste that does not have to be composted, and can be added directly to the soil, without burning the plants.

What other manures are considered "cold". This is great info.

Rabbit is the only one I know of. I do know this, if it is composted the plant can utilize more of the nutrients. So composted is better, but directly applied from hutch to garden is O.K.
