I remember once visiting a site on the web that had the largest pumpkin record for each state. Does anyone know the url to the site that I'm talking about? Thanks

I checked the records and there is no state record listed for S.C. How do I get something official if I or anybody else grows a giant .I know yhere was a 500+ lb pumpkin at the state fair last year. Who or what makes it official in your states?

That's a good question Jeff. The record listed in Virginia is 823 but I know we also have a "State Fair" record that was something like 574 set last year. Are all these records recognized by some national committee? I know you yankees have your organizations up there but what about us southern folk?

I can't believe you said the Y word. They are just geographically challenged. Jeff

I think this question must be asked of Duncan, the guy who runs the site the list appears on.

only 379.6? I have that beaten, Calai 869.5, 746 Scherber, 432 Sawtelle, 354 Eiffler, 478 Kilbert, 481.5 kilbert, etc. All of my plants have the genetics to break that!

I just happen to know that I took last summer off from work to beat my previous record of 481.5#, and even though I worked my butt off, I missed my personal best by 3 1/2 pounds, when I really wanted a 600-800#er. Some first timers are extremely lucky, but, no matter what you do, you will have a "bad" year every now and then. I believe that it takes years of soil preparation to grow a world class pumpkin. That and weather patterns have a lot do do with your pumpkin too! I think any first year grower should be happy with a 200#er, or better, and then you at least have a personal best to beat next year. You'll find out that it's a LONG HAUL between now and the first week of October. A LOT can happen! Good Luck!

kilr, I got some heat stress and things aren't looking to good. the 869.5 Calai, 649 Dill, and your 478 are the healthiest plants
