first 3 true leaves have some wilt to them. the plant gets an inch or more water aweek with 15/30/15 and fish/seaweed ground soak. any advice would be great.

Wilted leaves usually mean that the plant is stressed. The amount of water to provide depends on the "drainability" of the soil ie. sandy soil needs much more water than clay soils. Secondly, what temperatures is the plant being subjected to? The higher the temp .....the more water it needs. By way of comparison, I give each plant about two gallons a day over a two foot radius of the plant when the hoop house temps reach 85°+. I think that your "babys" may be thirsty. Pray that it is only a lack of water....

It may also be transplant shock...usually very temporary...give the roots time to adjust to new soil...a few days....sometimes it gets too hot in hutches and sometimes too hot in sun........give it a few days and see what happens.......G.

stan,
glad you replied to this thread. i've been very stingy with water, not wanting to drown new transplants. wasn't figuring in hoop house temps which have reached 80's regularly. noted some browing on outer leaf periphery. will water a little more regularly now, knowing you've given them up to two gallons daily. easire to add than take away !
also spied some flea beetle activity today... anyone got any recommendations on dealing with them in a way that won't adversely affect plants ? noted some pinholes in leaves...and it's not hale either...still under cover !

seed was started outside 4weeks ago. the plant is getting larger ever day.the soil is good not sandy nor clay. the plant is out of its hoop house. the wilting started in the hoop house. fresh waterings dont seem to help the plant

CBIT- hey I had that problem with my plants. It isn't the water it is just to hot and the plant might not being getting ventalation in the hoop house. My started to wilt when I didn't give the plant fresh air.-Buzz

My plants wilt some from the heat of the sun too. I wonder if it would do any good to lay a light colored canvas to help reflect the sun light or would this only make things worse?

the plant is doing ok. but the first 3leaves are still wilted. 6 or 7 new leaves look great.gave plant about 5 gallons of water this weekend. temps have been mild (60)s . I will be switching to a higher nitrogen fertilizer this week. any input would be great.

I also experienced some wilting until I dug 4 vent holes under the hoop-house frames. This provided needed ventilation and still maintained wind protection.

Thanks Guys, I am having the same problem. Possibly not enough ventilation and possibly not enough water. I was worried about too much water but perhaps that is not too big of a concern.
