After being gone a couple of days I returned to find my plants leaves riddled with little tears. Most of the tears were in the interior of the leaves and if I push the pieces back together there is no material missing. The edges of the tears look burnt and there aren't any "fresh" tears. The only thing I've done differently in the last week was water with 27-5-5 which I'm sure I slopped on the leaves. Whatever happened hasn't stopped the plants from growing very rapidly. Do I have a bug, varmit or stupidity problem?

Somebody wouldn't have hit a weed eater in the dirt a little close to vine would they? If not, maybe a cat could have swatted the leaves playing around a bit.

Hail would explain it but I would by VERY unusual if we had hail down here this time of year. I'll ask around and see what the weather was like when I was gone but I don't think we got anything more than a little rain.

I posted pics of the tears in my growers diary so feel free to view them then give me your diagnosis.

What about birds? I remember last year the birds were attracted to my patch. Wind sounds like a good possibility, too

Mark and everyone else were right...we had hail while I was gone. I was so convinced that was beyond the realm of possibility. Fortunately I have you pros to set me back on the right track...thanks!

I had this problem last year on a plant in my backyard that I put in for the kids and it was caused by house sparrows.I installed berry netting and stopped them . Matt
