Anyone else out there amazed at Mother Nature?

Late last week Connecticut broke three records in a row for high temperatures and posted the second earliest official heat wave ever.

Last night we had killing frosts that have the farmers scratching their heads. Tonight more of the same!

I have decided to put off the planting of my 968 Stellfplug until tomorrow.

When we were kids we used to sing songs to wish the rainy days... any songwriters out there... we need one for good pumpkin weather.

I planted two today. 407 Armstrong and 600 Desrosiers and I live in Conn. Some of my unprotected potatos froze last night.I have covers over the pumpkins. (5 gallon buckets)

We need rain in a bad way.

Our weather turned cooler down here too but the overnight lows were still at least 10 degrees above freezing. We southern growers may have advantages now but I'm sure we will pay the price in July and August when we get a long run of 100 degree days.

Frankly...you can have all our rain if you want....it has not stopped for a week now....well not continously, but it has been cool, cloudy, and many showers. It seems that time i find to transplant my seedlings....i have to do it in the rain!!

Lows here are in the low 40's and upper 30's. No freezing yet.

I live in southern Ontario and the weather has been good. Lots of sun and mild temps. Last week it was very warm and dry 85+ and I was able to get lots of work done in the patch. No complaints here after the lousy cool and wet spring last year.

Sunday night the low was 23 and last night it was 31.9. I am going to keep my seedlings in the house for another day or two.

I'm in the same boat here a 3 day record heat wave last week then a killing frost monday morning 26 degrees light frost last nite, plants survived fine, when i looked out the window yesterday morning there was frost all over the tops of the enclosurers where the plants reside, but when i checked the thermometer the soil was a toasty 72 degrees, not much rain, it's starting to look like 1995 all over again.

Hi gang, Well it seems my first little addition to this thread got lost in the old Bit Bucket... It went like this though. The weather here in the Pacific Norhtwest has been terrible record lows,35 to 45 MPH winds, record number of days with snow on the ground, and 2.5 inches below normal rain fall. I believe that all you die hard "Pumpkin Heads" out there will find a way to get your crop in! I did notice that Johnny D. is planting without the benifit of a green house or clotche to protect his seedling? The first 4 weeks of a pumpkins life are the ones that will determin if it reaches it's full potential or even survives. I would highly recommend the incorperation of some type of green house, no matter how small, to enhance the micro-climate of your specimins for a few weeks.
