Last year the growers who frequent BigPumpkins.com did well. What does everyone predict for this year? I think someone from the BigPumpkins.com community will break the 900 pound mark. Also, I hope to see many names from this site in the top 10 at weigh-offs all over the country. How cool would it be to have someone with a full season long diary break the world record or even the 1000 pound mark?!?

Right now I would be happy growing a pumpkin bigger than me (275 Richey 1966). Thanks to all the information provided on this site and very helpful people who are members I think someone will put up some impressive numbers. Even if we don't, we're going to have a great time trying!

I think someone will break 900 lbs unless we the weather is very bad. I don't want to name names so as not to jinx anyone but there are a few people here that have as good a chance as anyone in North America to break 1000 LBS.IMHO
Good Luck to Everyone

(Just make sure your wearing our T-Shirt when you do the Leterman show.)
We need to spread the word as much as possible at weigh-offs and pumpkin related events...
But then again, I am completely biased..

Hi John!
Just wanted you to know that I wore my "American Gothic" T-shirt from BigPumpkins to the Ohio Valley Seminar this year. Someone asked me if BigPumpkins.com "was for real!" I got lots of compliments about the shirt, but not quite as much attention as my "got Stelts" shirt at the weigh-off.(Gee, I wonder why!) My Stelts 801.5 seed took 56 hours to germinate on the propagation mat, I'd all but given up on it! I was disappointed last year when I missed my personal best by only 3 1/2 pounds, this year I just want to grow a nice big ORANGE pumpkin. Watch out for Amy this year, that's where MY money is!

I did some number crunchin, and if history is a good indicator of the future, then I predict that the top official weight this year will be 1213.6 lbs. Lets hope that number has my last name after it. Last year the 642 Snow gave Mr. Pistono an 841 pound fruit. My 642 Snow has all but jumped out of the peat pot!

I can tell you, I would never have gotten a 788.6 last year without all my friends from bigpumpkins.com! Thanks all especially kilr, my daily pumpkin coach! I predict a great time for all of us, with the usual bumps in the road. I have never had a hobby, or more exactly a way of life as fullfilling as this. the friends, the weighoff, seminars, and just staring at a pumpkin ( or squash) growing in the patch. I hope everyone has a great season.

I don't want to make a prediction my first try but maybe we could have a BigPumpkins Rookie of the year . Maybe a t shirt for a prize.I'm a little rough on shirts but I would wear a hat. Jeff

I am hoping for one over 800 lbs this year, but i know i will need alot of luck. I think i could contend for biggest squash....lol. My 616 corkum has to grow squash though, not pumpkins. Otherwise, 876.5 Lloyd and 825.5 shymanski seedlings look very healthy and i think those two seeds are my best shot at 800 lbs. Amy will be hard to beat, that is for sure. Which ever region gets the best weather will have bigger pumpkins...hopefully WI has a good summer like last year.

If you count Len who is the most experienced that would be 1056.5 in 1998...he knew how to grow monsters before this sight.<(also 968 uow in 2000) Amy learned a lot from this sight and grew a 788.6 last year.(see above) You can go with who learned how to grow from the site, or who posts on the sight. Good Luck

I Think there will be at least 3 pumpkins over 1000 pounds this year from Bill Bobier's 723 of 1999. I hope my 723 produces one of them. This seed is my pick for a New World Record in 2001. I'm also going for a 1000+ pound Squash. A Hester 895.5 Squash will be in the position that grew my largest 5 years in a row. All I need is close to ideal weather.

I'm a rookie, but my plants have great genetics, I have 4 that I think can break 900# and 3 that could break 1000#. what are my odds of growing the big one?

From my observation, it is 1/3 genetics, 1/3 growing conditions and care, 1/3 LUCK!!!!!!!!!

This year im planning on growing one equal or over 800 lbs, I know its a pretty big stretch since this is only my second year growing these things, and my last years best was 350 lbs, but this year i have allot of good seed stock that is from some big proven pumpkins, ~Wildbill

Stan, I think to get a fruit over 1000 pounds its about 75% genetics and 25% for everything else. Then its 100% "luck" if it survives for a weight-off.

Len, you are absolutely right when it comes down to the last 30 days!! I understand that some growers have a hard time sleeping!!
