I was wondering what grade is it? who cares for the patch over the summer? Don't the kids who plant the seeds move up or is this a school wide project? Jeff

Hi Jeff, Thanks for asking about the kids. If anyone else is interested in the RVSK pumpkin project, feel free to e-mail me privately.

Hi all,
And now for the "Case of the Disappearing Stelts 1140": We planted ten pumpkin seeds. Nine of the ten seeds sprouted either in a plastic bag or were planted directly into coffee cans after being filed and soaked a couple hours (See our diary). All but one seed, the Stelts, emerged from the soil within a couple of days and the plants are doing great. We noticed that the Stelts seed was a little on the flat side, but we figured since it was our only one, we would hope for the best. We attempted to germinate it in a plastic bag like the others, but after about 36 hours, it just seemed to sit there so we decided to place it in the dirt just the same and wait it out. Well, here's the strange part -- Nothing happened after a couple days so we decided to dig it up and see what was what. You guessed it -- We couldn't find the seed anywhere in the can! We even put the soil through a strainer looking for the remains of the seed. Our question is: Has anyone else had this happen? If the seed was immature, would it have deteriorated so quickly? We are quite certain we did plant it and that no one tampered with the can. Thanks for any help. RVSK
