I'm new this year to but I've seen where you need 600sq ft minimum per plant. Jeff

20-25 feet should be good. I grew a 762 lber in less than 600 sq feet of area....i heard that it has been proven that you can get 4 lbs of weight to your pumpkin per leaf. So if you have 200 good leaves...you have a chance at a 800 lb pumpkin!! It really does depend on the weather and amount of sunlight probably.

HOOSIER, Hi I believe that the quality of your soil is as important as the amount of space it has to grow in. The more nutrients available to the plant along with its ability to absorb them at the cation level will greatly effect it's growth. Sun light is certianly a key ingredent. I had a site last year that was mommas old vegitable garden with nearly perfect soil and full sun (400 sq. ft.) I grew a 450# pumpkin in it. I believe 600 sq.ft. is about the minimum to get a really big one. That is the size of the old vegie garden this year. P.s the plants allways seem to spill out onto the lawn anyway....
