Well gang, I have been reading with great intrest about all the seedlings everyone has been starting, and All I can say is "It's way To early" I decided to take a break, and change the oil in the ole rototiller,(and sharpen the blades) as well as dig my planting holes, I have been filling them by layers with compost, winter rye, manure, dirt, and alot of sweat. My new planting holes are about 8'x8'x5' deep, I work in gypsum, 14-14-14 Osmocote, and Ironite, did I mention alot of sweat? I have mounded my sites about 8" above grade as setteling is sure to occure. As for my seedlings I will germinate them about April 20, Sorry if my spelling is a little off as I am totaly beat from all of this the site prep... Let the game begin!!! Gadberry

I totally agree with Gads, its way to early to be starting your seeds.

5 feet deep! Wow! Has this produced great results in the past. Huge pumpkins? That would really add up to a lot of compost and manure.

Hi Gads - I think that out here on the West Coast it is still to early to plant. I started a couple of Mckinley635's in peat pots, made a hoop house and planted them out about a week ago. I will wait to plant some seeds direct. I went up instead of down for my patch. I had a low area in my garden so I brought in 10 yards of great soil mix and am planting in this. Good luck!
