The topic comes up quite a bit, I think this challenge would be kind of neat. I think a common seed could be thrown out (lets say the 1081 Leonzi or the 1068 Papez) and grown by 3 - 5 heavy hitters in here. That plant would be treated as such an underdog and also showcase the talent of the participating HH on how well he/she could grow a "common/unproven" seed. Yes, they will have 1068 Wallaces and 1231 Pukos' in their patch, but how about a contest with their own side bets on how big they could grow one of the "other" seeds? Any heavy hitter takers? Joe J? Ron/Dick W? Joe P? Larry C? Quinn W? Dan M? Dave S? Don Y?

Nice.....Rocky......Put the Choosen seeds in a hat.....draw them out, grow'em and show'em......diary's would teach growers alot....I like it......Place bets on which heavy hitter goes big.....$$$ goes to charity / BP, whatever....

What I beleive is their are those "golden seeds" with the same genetic line...Ole CoJoe here had a few 1068's that didnt go 1000 in CO, and I have seen Joes patch, even his weeds are three times the size of any I have seen around here, so it wasnt Joe, it was the seed and other weather factors..This year he has his last 1068, I expect it to go BIG for him this time....sorry Joe, Brooks will be baggering you now.....lol....I still think it would be a great learning experience in the contest of the HH....this year CoJoe, Barry Todd, TheWIz, Gary Shenfish, and maybe even TheBiz are all growing one common seed. The 1407 Hemphill, Thanks Edmund.....ought to be some fun..

Hey Joe, I didnt know you had one of them there 1068 Wallace seeds, we are gonna have to sit down and talk about that,,,,,,,LOL!!!!

Wiz, Im going to grow Joes 1075 (1407 Hmphill x 1450 Wallace) seed, I really think thats a great cross, I like the fact it went over 1000lbs in your cold climate, just imagine what this 1075 might be able to do in regular growing weather.

That 1407 might just be the seed you colorado guys are looking for, something that grows big in a little cooler weather like you guys gave.

Oh Joe, I havnt forgot about you, we need to talk,,,,ha!

Good idea Rocky. If enough heavy hitters decide to do it, we could offer seed suggestions, and the heavy hitters could vote on those. What would be the definition of heavy hitter? 1200+ lb. pumpkin to their credit?
Brooks,
I was in Boulder, CO last August....wasn't cold then...in the 90's I think. It is a drier climate though, and that would be a particular challenge. Doesn't appear to be very fertile farmland there either...maybe just the drier climate made it appear that way?
