little early for this but don't want anybody coming to California for an weigh off or whatever
Effective July 1, 2008, the legislation prohibits drivers from using a wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle unless the driver uses a hands-free device. Drivers who violate the law will face a base fine of $20 for a first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense

Good law, I wish Virginia would pass the same law.

NY & CT have had it for years...it is a good idea but it shouldn't NEED to be a law. Common sense needs to be law? LOL
For the record, men in the metro area use Blue Tooth. Women ignore the law, keep right on talking & driving & somehow, never get arrested. Go figure?

If the fine was $500 for the first offense instead of $20 then maybe a few people would pay attention.

I wish minnesota had that, the other day we were driving along and a driver was on the phone, she cut us off and did'nt think nothing of it,,,we held up a sign as we drove by and told her what we thought of it.

Here in New York they past that law a few years back. First time offense is $50.00 and a $25.00 court surcharge. Second offense is $100.00.My wife and I have almost ben hit head on twice. Both times it was a woman driving and on her cell phone. I've heard of so many accidents and someone getting killed because of someone on the cell phone. I know of a family who the husband lost his wife and two little children because of some stupid teenager on his cell fighting with his girlfriend on the cell phone. Good fine would be $500.00 and more for each offense. If someone needs to talk bad enough, wait to you get home and chat on the house phone. They should out law them while driving state wide.....
