All growers, the new and old, the tall and the small,
While there is a lot of good information here on bigpumpkins, it can be hard for new growers to know the basics as a foundation because of the shear volume of growing tips. Team-Pumpkin’s goal is to try and give new growers a head start.
Last year Team-Pumpkin gave out both seeds and seedlings to new growers along with a presentation and some tips. We had a grower grow a pumpkin over 400lbs. which is not bad since he never grew a pumpkin before. Another grower who was fairly new to growing giants and stayed in e-mail contact had a 900+ pound pumpkin! All of these pumpkins were brought to the Durham Fair in Connecticut this past year.
One of the goals of Team-Pumpkin is to try and give growers some of the basic ideas and concepts as well as some warning as to what the next step is going to be in the life of a pumpkin plant. Also, the timing of these events can help keep growers focused. By providing a pumpkin growing time-line, this can really help out someone new to pumpkins.
The focus is new growers, but for the seasoned growers they are welcome to offer new ideas or suggestions to the proposed method. As growers we need to act as a Team so that everyone can benefit. Yes, we all want to win the weigh-off but by helping others we can win at a different game.
The website is fairly new and will be getting some updates in time for the spring planting. Right now there are the basic fall prep. guidelines and be sure to look at the Photos section. Also, for those growers in the area there is another “How to Grow” seminar in the works sometime in the next few months.
Please take the time to read the website over, and post your comments here.
