Yep I bet a lot of people that go for orange pumpkins will be planting the 919 Richards next year. If ya cant get one at auction p&p seeds has one for 15 bucks I believe.

If you are looking for orange pumpkin, I have plenty of my 579 fruit which is a 1048 Companion X 1233 Reiss also. I just finished drying the seeds (left the pumpkin intact for Thanksgiving holiday) and have them ready to go. Gorgeous fruit.

Wow. Double Wow! That has now overtaken the 1099 Clark and 1225 Jutras as the most beautiful pumpkin ever grown. I'd be smiling, too! What is the 919 cross, by the way

When naming large beautiful pumpkins, I think the 1159 Richards, 1225 Jutras, 1290 Porier, 1099 Clark, and the 1125 Frantz are all worthy admiration. My question is which seed will consistantly produce large beauties? Or hasn't that seed been bred, or found yet?

I'd add the 1250 Kline in with that group. I'm likely leaving out some others that are worthy of mention.

Well not to take anything away from Joes pumpkin but I think the 1290 Poirier is just as pretty color and shape wise.

Add 1009 Kurilich to Doug's list above. Grown from the 802 Kurilich. Both will see lots of dirt in Michigan in 08.

I'm growing the 802 myself. I chose it as the "looker" of the 7 plants I will be growing. The rest are for size. My 802 will be crossed with a sibbed 1180 Daletas.

802 x 919? 802 x 1159? etc. could make a great orange x orange cross. We will have all richards seeds in our auction 1468, 1159 from this year. 1468 was Indiana State fair winner picked in mid August!

Good point vic. When I think of orange pumpkins, Zunino, Northrup, and Companion are names that come to mind.

I know it is an old thread, but I did a search for good looking pumpkins, and the some real nice ones have been grown. I know that the AG got a bad rep from being ugly (they make nice JOLs anyway), but there are some lines that really have made good looking pumpkins, that are over 1000 pounds.
1225 Jutras, 1317 Rose, 1099 Clark, 1290 Porier, 1159 Richards etc..
I should mention the 1160 Clark 2007 as it has not been mentioned yet. It had a scar on its Top, in the pictures, but other than a little scarring, it was a very nice looking pumpkin too.
Maybe there should be another Record Category, sort of like how Greenies are recorded as squash, maybe there should be a record category for "pretty pumpkin" too.
There could be a standard of say, no greater than 50% difference in lengths vs. height either way, and at least a certain darkness of orange. There could be a lamenated color code piece of paper to be placed against the pumpkin to determine if it meet the standard then.
Weight would still be the ultimate factor, but only the good looking ones would be competing for that award.
